New immediate suspensions for drink drivers to apply

Under amendments to the Transport legislation presently before parliament, drink drivers with reading of 0.1 or higher will face immediate disqualifications, lowering the present application to drivers with readings over 0.15.

The current alcohol content allowed for open licence holders is 0.05.

Other proposed amendments are the reduction in police officers taking the testing and the time period allowed for the testing.
