Drug/Drink/ Dangerous Driving

Work Licences

You can apply for a restricted work licence if you have been charged with drink or drug driving. You can’t if your offence is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Or failing to provide a specimen of breath (at a police station).

The work licence allows you to continue driving for work-related purposes during your disqualification period.

Special Hardship Orders

A SHO is a court order that allows you to continue to drive on your driver’s licence under stated restrictions. The restrictions may include (but are not limited to):
  • Restricting the purpose for which you drive
  • Restricting the class of vehicle you drive

Traffic law can range from charges such as speeding in excess of the speed limit, driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, driving while disqualified, or dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm or death.
